"I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death."
- Revelation, 1. 18
The Broader Picture
The Dracul have indeed moved in on the Invictus and, with no interference from the Lancea, have achieved a notable victory. This means that they are busy estabilishing a new power base - not in terms of controling the city, but in an effort to secure their position from a possible counterattack or from any unexpected threat.
The Lancea have an inherent duty to look after the souls of the dead, a duty in which they reject any possible interference from the Circle of the Crow. By allying with the Dracul, they hope that a stong and united leadership brings order to the city, stopping the killings that have been increasing for month after month. They also wish to make it clear for the Circle that their sorcerous ways have no place in the city.
The Invictus have suffered a major blow to their organization in the city. All their leaders have been slained and their major followers have been ambushed and hunted down by the Dracul. Those who remain are lesser vampires and are either running away from London, trying to join other covenants or laying low for a good long while. Tom Sheffield has contacted a few survivors and is bidding his time, waiting for Alain and Bran to come forth and complete their plan so that he can join them in victory and support their rule
The Circle of the Crow were ambushed by the Lancea and have lost almost all of their leaders. Lylian has survived only with the help from Benjamim, her child. She suffers more for the loss of her friends than for the breaking of the covenant. The few who remain are trying to survive in hidding or looking to join the Dracul.
Sulivan knows that the Dracul and the Lancea will need her to take logistic control of the city and purge the Invictus out of the power structure. She is slowly approaching each of the covenants, ofering her services, knowing that - if she replaces the Invictus in the comings and goings of London - her voice will be heard among the elders and her family will receive its due respect from their masters. On the other hand, she now believes that owning her proper place in London will not be possible under the rule of Bran or Alain. As long as the Invictus stay down, her place is among the rule of the covenants.
The Hornmist Society stands between the lost ghouls of the Invictus and Sulivan's ambition. Erica knew the Invictus well and recognizes their fall as an opportunity to take away from their influence over humanity.
Bran has used Morpheu's Helmet to travel from the Dreamlands into Hell, coming one step closer of achieving his false prophecy. Alain now needs to open a safe portal from which Bran can be summoned from Hell and back to London, but his plan of using Adam for that purpose has been turned to dust. He knows that bargainign with demons is not an option in this case, so he has yet to find a way. Still, he tells Sheffield that everything is falling into place and that soon the city shall be Bran's and no one else's. Meanwhile, he has recognized that perhaps there is something to be expected from Jacob and Ian - that perhaps they shall signal the coming of the true Raven King - but that is something he will only have to deal with in a couple of years or more. Or not.
Ian Gorski
His family finds that it is easier to deal with his father's emprisionement if they blame Ian for all that has happened.
Samuel finds the only possible solution for his blood addiction. By entering the game, between Sulivan and Brian, he tries to gain even a small measure of perspective over the World of Darkness that has taken over his life.
Jacob Heart
Rachel reminds herself of what is to live her life on her own. She does what she has to do to get ahead and she knows she can use Pam.
Quentin returns from Hell with his mind shattered - haunted by infernal visions of horrour and confused by the many lifes of the First Archmage running around his head. By losing control over Quentin's body, he is slowly returning to his vampiric state. After assaulting two policemen in wild delirium, Quentin is put in a mental institution.
