Jogador Americano em Lisboa (An American Gamer in Lisbon)

Ola Lisboa!

Hello Lisboa!

My name is Colin and I'm an American. I love board games and euro-games in particular, but I suppose in Europe you might just call them 'games' (j/k). Anyway, I'm going to be in Lisbon for a few days in about a week or so and I was hoping someone here could help me out with these questions:

1)can you recommend a good boardgame store to me in lisboa or faro? I did a quick search earlier and found four possibilities, but my portugese is very bad and I can't tell which would be the best to go to.

2)I want to go to a boardgame store in lisboa because it seems to me that there must be some games that I can't get in the states that I could possibly find during my time in portugal. I've only come across two so far, and I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions. The two on my list so far are A)Die burgen von burgen. while you can technically get that game in the US, you can only do it through an online store paying overseas shipping costs. I'd rather avoid those if I can. B)Goa, a game thats been out of print in the US for a few years now, but I'm told there is a good chance I'll be able to find a copy in Europe.

Maybe this isn't all too common of an occurrence, but if anyone had any suggestions of games that are either brand new and might not have made it across the atlantic yet or games that are out of print but still fairly easy to find in portugal, I'd appreciate it!

3)and of course, I would prefer to try the games before I buy them! I see you meet on wednesdays, but I think i'm leaving Lisboa tuesday morning. Are there any gamers in the algarve region? any gamers in faro? I'll be spending a bit of time there as well and I'd be up for playing some games!

obrigado!

Welcome to Portugal. I hope you enjoy your stay among us.

I'm afraid you might not be in too much luck as the board game scene in Portugal is still a bit too young and small.

1) In regard to Lisbon and stores around there I'm not the best person to help you as I live up north in Porto, still you may get some better replies from the folks there. I suppose in Faro the prospects are even worse...

2) The same goes for the specific titles you are looking for. One is a bit recent and I suppose it probably is still not available here. I did a quick browsing of a Spanish on-line store that can get the games here in a day or two and they still don't have it. As for Goa, it is the opposite but with the same result. It will be hard getting a hold of it.

3) As for a group in Faro, I think it is just starting out... I hope one of them will see this post and maybe get in touch with you.

If you were coming to Porto (and Thursday night will be a very special night here as the local holiday gets the whole town partying in a very unique manner) I'd be glad to give you some better help and show you around town... Too bad you are travelling south!

Anyway, best of luck and have fun in Portugal!

Hello and welcome!

1) Best stores in Lisbon:

El Corte Inglés (games are on 4th floor - kids section) - https://www.elcorteingles.pt/informacao/localizacao_horarios.asp

FNAC stores in several shopping malls - https://www2.fnac.pt/Magazine/fnac_shops/fnac_shops.asp?bl=HGACfoot

Puros e Companhia (it's kind of a newspaper/magazine shop in Colombo Shopping Mall, on the ground floor, in front of the Worten shop) - https://www.colombo.pt/centro.php

Tema - in that same shopping mall Colombo, you'll find another store in the 2nd floor, close to the cinemas. Again it's a magazines shop.

2) Burgund will be EXTREMELY difficult to find in Portugal. I suggest ordering from https://www.planetongames.com , they are a spanish store (english available) that deliver in 24h to Portugal. Great service, good prices, lots of games. As for Goa, it's out of print and it will be also very difficult to find it over here.

3) Faro has some monthly public meetings, but next one is 30th June. Try using their email available in that meetings post - https://www.abreojogo.com/node/9527

In case you need anything more regarding Lisbon - directions etc - just contact me.

Puros & Companhia is closed :(

There's a small mall in Continente Telheiras, where there's a newspaper/magazine store that has a lot of variety of eurogames, a few on the windows shop, and a lot inside on the first floor.

You can find a boardgame shop at:

Thank you all for your help and suggestions! I'm actually going to be in Lisboa next week, I was just doing some prep work before I got there, so I really appreciate your help! I will definitely check out your suggestions. If anyone has any others I would be glad to hear them.

thank you again! Obrigado!

I'm going to be Lisbon for about a day... I'll be arriving sometime next monday and leaving tuesday. It's a very fast trip! Looking at it now, I doubt I'll have any time to *play* games while i'm in lisbon, sadly.
