| fgpina | 8.0 | Colecção | In Acquire hotels are formed, expanded and eventually merged. These hotels have shares that can be bought by any of the players, so in effect most of them will be owned by 2, 3 or more players. The hotel's expansions are done by a mechanism of tile placement where players try to control the hotel's growth at their best possible interest (not always possible...). Might seem strange but with more players the game turns globally less chaotic as it approaches the rules of normal markets. With fewer players, each player has more control over the tile placement process and can turn apparently bad investments into good ones. There is a luck factor involved (especially if you pick a tile that allows a perfect hotel merge), but a good reading of the market evolution is normally the key for victory. The few money you start with, is perfect to create the right amount of tension during the investment stages. The game offers different ways to victory, either by making sucessive small wins (producing small hotel merges) or by being able to do a few big wins (holding a good number of shares from the biggest hotels). The rules can be explained in 5 minutes. |

It must have been so frustrating to the other players - I apologised frequently throughout the game - but I guess they were not minding me and just concentrating on their game. 20/09/08: Played this for the second time and, as I got someone kind enough to go through the motions, patiently, explaining step-by-step, I actually enjoyed it. That shows you how a bad game experience can put you off a game even if the game in itself is essentially a good game. | |
| soledade | - | It's a good tense game. It's fun and clever. Very easy to explain and a good possibility to newbies, I think. I still wonder if luck weights too much on the game's result. Have to play it again. 6/07/2008 Played it again with 4 players. Luck has a major role during the game. The opportunity to make mergers makes the difference. If a player doesn't have the tiles for it gets too much dependent of whatever the other players do. I still like the game, of course, but because of that, I can't rate it higher than a 6. | |
