After the group defeated Tlukkah and his followers, Liff was somewhat consternated for losing three of his companions. Yet, the survival of even the one dwarf was enough to give him some hope.

Knowing that you couldn't use the bridge to get back he wrote a message to his brother and wrapped it around a pick throwing it to the other side of the chasm, hoping his brother would get it upon returning. It read:

SAVED ONE. GOING EAST.

LIFF

After that he asked for any dwarven items the group may have found so he could return them to the families of the fallen. Then he writes a promissory note saying that he is owing you the amount of 1200 golden coins (1000 for the dwarven items and 200 for saving one of his companions, he explains) to which he adds his golden ring (worth 100 gp, he says) as a way of thanking for all your trouble.

Throughout you feel like you're being observed, but you do not feel threatened in any way, quite the contrary — apparently the spider queen had some drones following you. Liff would later say that she talked to him telepathically explaining that she only wanted to help us and, in fact, before leaving the caves you had a good night sleep while the spider drones kept watch.

In the morning, though, the spiders were gone.

The surviving dwarf was beginning to look better by now but, on the other hand, Brénainn was feeling a bit feverish,... and yet he seemed to have a hint of a smile in his face.
