Great card game with very good art, expect some introduction plays before getting the grip on this symbol heavy game. It's worth it though.

Wow, what a wonderful game! It has a very steep learning curve, because it's imperative to know the cards... and there are a lot of cards to know! But it's also a very deep game, with a lot of choices every turn and a quick playing time. It's gamer heaven!Comparisons to San Juan are a little bit off. Sure, there are roles and what you build is payed for with cards from your hand. However Race for the Galaxy adds a ton of new stuff to that basic concept that dramatically increase the both the options available every turn and the amount of possible winning strategies to pursue. I can see where the multiplayer solitaire complaints come from. There's no direct player interaction and some people probably won't like that. The interaction is there for sure, but in a more indirect and subtle form, kinda similar to Puerto Rico's. Unlike Puerto Rico though, in the first few games it's very difficult not to be overwhelmed with all the options available, so it's hard to pay attention to what other people are doing hence the complaints about lack of interaction. I expect this to change with experience, but this will never be the game for those among us who crave for direct, in your face, conflict and interaction.People like me who appreciate deep games, with a lot of interesting decisions, a huge amount of variety and possible strategies and subtle and complex interaction will be in heaven! UPDATE: I just can't stop playing this. There must be some kind of treatment...

English edition by Rio Grande Games. Some necessary text - easily memorized or small crib sheet. Really good condition.

hmocc6.0I was very curious how this game would play. I like S.Juan. This is deeper, thus it took me the whole game to get into it and by the end I still didn't know too well what I was doing. Deservedly I came last in a 4-player game. Need to play more times. #Edit: I have had to re-rate this game from 7.5 to 6.5, simply because I really don't know what I'm doing as I'm playing it. I don't know the cards, I don't see the strategies, I spend half my time dumbly looking at the cards without knowing what exactly to do next, let alone think of a optimum play. I either buy this game and start playing it exclusively to learn it or I just give up. Maybe I'll just go half way and keep trying... 07/09/2008: Played a 3-player game yesterday and was able to mount a feeble militaristic strategy that led me to an amazing last place. Again. Nevertheless I'm slowly starting to pick up on the basic intricacies of the game and how it should be played. I wish games went a bit further than the 12th building. I've decided I want to buy this game and I'll probably play it to death until I know the cards and various strategies well.

Fantastic game! Challangeing, and not at all as difficult as it seems at first. You just need to get used to the iconic code. Graphics are gorgeous and the quality of the cards is great of course. It's obvioulsy inspired in San Juan, but it does a good pushing the idea further, making it more involving and better integrating the settlement theme! Very good game indeed sir!
Rui Conde-I will buy it if I like it

+ Awesome card game with Puerto Rico's mechanic. Kicks its little brother (San Juan) off the shelf. It clearly has a lot to explore, pun unintended. And I can't see the criticism on the symbols... Who's trying to play this, 3 years old kids? - Ridiculously big box.

Endless variety, countless ways to win, subtle interaction in feeding off of your opponent's actions, flexibility in exploiting the opportunities afforded to you from the cards you are dealt, and plenty of satisfaction from building up your empire into a smooth VP machine. All this in a twenty minute package with little to no downtime make this my favourite game. Only hitch is that it's hard to explain and only really plays well with veterans. Haven't learned the takeover rules in the latest expansion yet, much to the annoyance of some people :)
soledade-Not my cup of tea. I've played it and won it but didn't understand what was happening. I don't understand the cards, and the concept is too much abstract to me. It's a good game, at least it seemed like, but not to me I'm afraid.
