I was never a big fan of the ticket to ride sytem. I enjoyed the base game, I thought TtR:Europe was an improvement and I thought TtR:Märcklin was too fiddly and artificially complex. But I always preferred playing with lower counts, because I always felt that such a simple system didn't support long playing times. However, TtR or TtR:Europe with just 2 or 3 players feel too forgiving. There's a lot of space in the map and blocking isn't really an option (I read somewhere that the 1910 expansion includes a good variant for lower player counts). So, TtR:Nordic Countries seemed the perfect fit for me: it has the simple rules from previous incarnations but it's also a very mean and cutthroat game, with a lot of opportunity for blocking moves. I decided to try it, and after playing it a couple of times, I can heartily recommend it. It's got all the good stuff that made TtR such a successful franchise (rules simplicity, relatively fast playtime and interesting gameplay with a good learning curve to climb) and none of the other stuff that I didn't like in previous incarnations (downtime issues, long playing time with high player counts, or the fiddliness and unwarranted complexity that can be found in TtR:Märcklin). It's the best in the series IMHO and I'm glad that I've tried it.

Another entertaining game in the Ticket to Ride franchise. The map is now much more based in ferry tracks but there is no longer the restriction of only drawing one locomotive when visible. A pleasant game as all the others. Visualy speaking, the cards are astonishing.

I like this version of the game because it's very well designed. Rules are simple and very similar to the other TtR titles but this board was specially designed for 2/3 players and I must say that, at least, the 3 player game is very good. The map is very tight and if played with the right spirit (positive play AND occasional stabbing) works pretty damn well. It has other strong advantages comparing to original TtR: since it has only 2/3 players it's faster, tighter and straightforward and also the perfect choice for newbies. It may be my favorite title of the series (so far I know Marklin, Europe and original).
