Heavy efficiency game. Heavier than Agricola and at least as heavy as Caylus, the game that inspired both. This is actually much closer to Caylus than Mr. Rosenberg's previous effort. There are a lot of resources to be collected, refined and then used to build buildings, which allow new actions to be performed, or ships, which allow goods to be exchanged for money. In the end, the richest man wins. The number of options available grows exponentially, as players build buildings, there are a lot of different ways to achieve one's goals and almost zero luck. Solo mode is actually very interesting. I think this can be a real classic. Not so appealing to non gamers as Agricola, but a real challenge for those who like these types of games. Rating may go up.

A very nice surprise. Best game from Essen so far. I was afraide that it was another Agricola, but no. Much better game than its successor. An intelligent application of Caylus style with one or two innovate mechanics. I like Agricola, I think it is a great game, but this one is more difficult, more challenging and without all the luck gap between players in the beginning of the game. This one is for sure a gamers game. 1) I had play it twice and enjoy it a lot. First time play with 5 players (two of them with a lot of AP) 3h30 2) 2nd play - 4 players - less than 2h30. It plays best with 4 players. 3) 3rd 4th play - solo Play - 45 to 60 minutes for game. 4)Really love this game. It became one of mine top 10. 5) After a 2 players short game: I prefer the full game but this one was enough to take my rating to a 9. This one took 60 minutes long with explanation. 6) A 3 player full game. This game is awessome. full play - 2h30 hours with one first timer. 7) Solo play max score - 313 points

Bom jogo, estilo [gameid=31260]. Gostei do jogo. Preciso jogar mais.

14/11/08 Played with 4 players I admit that this is a good game but it takes too much long and it's very repetitive. It's a very deep and strategic game and I like that. I supose that this rate could improve but I have to test it with fewer players. Maybe 3 players. edit: Played with 3 players and again with four. This time the pace of the game was much more interesting because players were familiar to the game. It improved a lot. I now know that I prefer this game with 4 players because although we have less actions than with 3, the truth is that the demanding for food is much more balanced allowing players to do different things. I still think the game is a bit too repetitive and long but it improved a lot. By now I really think I like to play it and that I should do so more often. After a few more plays, I really like Le Havre. At first I didn't get it but after playing it with more care I realized that this is a very good game with lots of difficult things to combine as decisions to make: what building to build, when to build or buy, how to get food... always different decisions because the way buildings are organized makes each game a unique game and so does the way players play the game. More aggressive play happens after players know the game better and best buildings are known. Being the butcher seems to work pretty fine and learning the exact timing of when to take a supply turn or an action turn is a key issue to success. I like to play it as a 2 player game too. Maybe it's how it works better because it doesn't have any down time and the number of actions per turn is much more interesting in order to make things workable as a small economy.

+ Nice mechanics. Fluid, simple and varied. I love it with two players. - Seems hard to catch up if a player stays behind. I'm still waiting to know how this works with more than 3 players. (I do now. It's way too long)

An economic game from the Agricola guy. Very, very diferent from Agricola (only the Harvests and some resources like grain, cattle, wood and clay reminds you of the predecessor). Much like Caylus. The best solo game that I played yet. Amazing evolution through the game: you begin poor and ends up rich, very rich. Thumbs up, Mr. Uwe.
