| pitris | - | Colecção | The more I play this, the more I enjoy it. I think it really does a great job at recreating the chaos and disorientation of a combat situation. I love the card playing system, which allows for very fluid gameplay and you gotta love those events! Of course there are a lot of random elements, of course there will be situations were the game will be decided by luck... but that's war for you! And this is a really fun game! You get to play around with flamethrowers, assault buildings, lay down wire, throw some smoke grenades, see heroes rise and perform great deeds... this is band of brothers stuff! Sometimes your plans will work. In others, everything will fail and you'll be forced to take desperate actions... and be lucky enough to get away with it! Really amazing design! Rating just keeps getting up! |
| Asur | - | + Nice production. Big maps, big chits, nice cards. I don't like the result, but I can't deny this is a creative design. - It's much more of a cardgame than a wargame. Yes, I understand it's supposed to be representing the chaos in battle, but there are much better mechanics available in other games. It's a perfect example of the worse card-driven wargames can be, with all the randomness and lack of control. When I found myself using cardgame tricks such as exhausting decks while paying close to no attention to what was happening on the board, I realized I have no interest in what this game offers. | |

| jernau | - | Colecção | The first time I played this game I didn't enjoy it, because some situations can develop where you can literaly do nothing, and it can be very frustrating (both my opponent and I spent some minutes just looking at each other and discarding, looking for cards that we could use); further plays have shown more variability and I've come to enjoy the game much more. The huge amount of scenarios available is a big plus. The cards are a very interesting and innovative mechanic, contributing to fog of war and adding cool events and battlefield chaos. But they also mean that sometimes luck can play a big role. The game can be very fun and engaging when things are flowing well. Sometimes, however, the cards simply refuse to come out and then the best that can be said about it is that it's very frustrating. Fortunately the scenarios are short enough that you can simply give up and start over. Strangely enough, I discovered that it actually plays well solo. Against an opponent, having him waltzing back and forth across open ground right in front of my heavy machine gun position, while there's nothing I can do about it because in 25 cards I didn't get a single fire card, is deeply infuriating; playing solo it's all happily part of the narrative, which is by far the strongest point about this game. |

| larkin10 | - | The upside: - WWII - The feeling you get when you try to accomplish a mission with the troops and cards you have. - It's FUN, even for non-wargaming standards. - The production quality of all components. The downside: - Maybe it's better to have a teacher than to learn the rules for yourself (Great rulebook though). - Has some rough edges (whick I believe can be mitigated with experience in playing it). | |

| newrev | - | Colecção | I finally play this game. It was in my collection for about a year. I like it. But I find wargames a little tedious and repetitive, with not much to do. I'm still a eurogamer. |

| hmocc | - | Rating after first play. I am biased towards grand scope strategy but this tactical game is a very interesting one, not at all difficult to get into, but considerably hard to dominate. Want to play again. | |

| ricmadeira | - | Colecção | This one's a real gem. Must be one of the most elegant wargame designs ever! I love all of its mechanics, the card-playing and handling, the random events, the random hexes, the dice on the cards, the hidden and the unexpected new objectives, etc; I just love every bit of it! I've been playing it whenever I get the chance, and have just bought my own copy. |
| Firepigeon | - | Colecção | Excelent the cross bettween the card drivem mechanism and ASL!!! |
| DalimThor | - | Colecção | great wargame, but it takes a while to fully understand it. |

| Drzodiacus | - | Colecção | Very, very good squad level game! The dice roll mechanic is a killer, imo |
| pedrolisboa | - | Colecção | As a Close Combat series fan who's way too scared of ASL, CC:E pushes all the right buttons without crushing you under tons of baroque rules. My only (very minor) complaint is that the designers didn't dedicate more attention to campaign/linked scenario play - but as I understand, the Battlepacks partially solve the problem. Sweet, endless, decadent fun. |
