We've been playing PR a lot and now that we have a core of relatively experienced players, the game is even better. This is a really good mix between tactics and strategy. You need to know where you want to go, but the tactical play in each turn is crucial! A player's actions really influence every other player's game, so the early complaints about lack of player interaction are ridiculous. The game is extremely balanced and it shows that a lot of work was made during development and playtesting. Wonderful game! |

| Prof. Plum | 9.0 | For a change, this typical German-style game is not thin on theme, with a logical game flow and almost every building and role making sense. Only a few feel like add-ons to the game-mechanics (like the 25% VP bonus). The richness of options (incl. the variable phase order and the rearranging of colonists) offer variable paths to what can be a very close game. There is only one thing missing for me to give it a 10: the fun factor that e.g. Cartagena or Intrigue have. Puerto Rico is more of a tense, serious affair. | |

It's fun, tense all the way, takes the right amount of time, always different (every game needs a different strategy depending on what your opponents do), it leaves you wanting to try a different approach... So one of the interesting mechanics of the game is to chose when's the best moment to chose a specific role, trying to minimize other players benefit from it. Loads to think about, much management... very good game indeed! |

Puerto Rico happened to be one of mine first board game crushes. This game invented a very important slice of modern board gaming and we all have to respect that as players. I do suspect that a few years from now the willing to play it will decrease as the time passes but that's only because newer things will appear and Puerto Rico, as a lucky free kind of game with no random elements becomes a dry mechanical game resulting in a obsolete gaming experience sort of speaking. This is even more true if the group of players remains the same over the years and if the game is played sufficiently to understand all its buildings and characters. New expansions are needed to fight this cristalisation. I mean, not only new terrains and buildings but also new characters to use and to give new options to players. Maybe it's something that this game deserves. This is one of the games of my life! |

The plantation tiles draw makes the difference when even matched players are face to face, and also when there's a new player around the one that is on his side is the winner!! Also with so many strategies like chess around, with optimus moves and the like, it finnishes to be a game and starts to be an exercice on who implements the best tough by others strategies. I can't understand why there's so much hype about this game. |
