| jernau | - | First impression: Played once as the invader with some wrong rules we corrected midway through the game. Looks like a nice game with a lot of different strategies to explore (mostly from the invader's side). Wasn't quite as good as I was expecting, but it did provoke a nice discussion afterwards. The invader seems to be in a tight race against the clock, and the glory points distribution might be a bit off balance (it's possible for the invader to lose by breaking into the stronghold, when breaching only the following turn would end up in a victory). There's also a lot of minutiae to understand, leading to a low action to planning ratio. Mostly, however, the game seems to be interesting with lots of different possible approaches, aided by the semi-random order setup. --------------------------- Second play: either I haven't fully understood the game yet, or things seem really tough for the invader. I remain unconvinced about this game, but I want to play more to explore the different possible strategies. | |

| soledade | - | Colecção | This is a special game. The theme is very interesting and very clear at first - one player has to get in some other player fortress. I confess that I would rather want a straight human themed game than one like this with goblins, orcs and trolls which I find stupid (that's the expression). Despite all that I insisted on this game because it seemed designed for 2 players and it's not a classic wargame and I'm glad I did. It's a very good game with maybe some balance issues (defender seems to have advantage) and with a lot of stuff going on. The designer insisted on the mythic creatures maybe because he wanted the game to get more unrealistic and spectacular options and he got it right at some point. The thing is that if you're playing as the invader there's a lot going on and there's a lot to learn, not only because there's a huge amount of planning but also because there are loads of options to take. The scoring system is interesting because it makes the game a rush in time on which the invader can't afford to make any mistakes or even take any risks. The turning point seems to happen on the 6th turn where the defender, if not yet invaded, probably wins the game. I'm not really sure of how this game will make through time but for now I guess it's a good investment. Playing on each side gives a totally different experience and that's part of the charm of the game. Despite all of that being the defender it's not that interesting, specially when comparing to what the attacker has to do. Overall a solid design. |
